SHANE’S on his way from Shi­raz to Yazd. He’s still in Iran. It’s moun­tains and desert and no­mads. We don’t get his best side tonight; he’s maybe try­ing to be amus­ing and comes off boor­ish. The food though — pash­mak, a high-grade kind of but­tery fairy floss — looks de­li­cious. And the bread. And amaz­ing pomegranates. In­ter­est­ing to see how cheap saf­fron is. He buys a kilo for a tenth of what it would be here.
