FATTY Vautin is watching his back. The veteran Footy Show host, now in his 22nd year in the chair, has had plenty of partners in crime on the panel since the rugby league entertainment program kicked off in the mid-1990s.

But for the first time, this season Vautin is seated alongside a full-time, female co-host, Erin Molan, pictured, who has been steadily working her way up the show’s ranks since joining in 2012. In fact, now that Michael Slater has vacated the co-host’s chair after three years in the job, there’s only one seat on the panel she hasn’t occupied — Vautin’s.

“I have noticed in the last three years she has moved from being part time, to being right down the end of the panel, she moved up one last year, and now she has moved up another one this year,” Vautin says.

Vautin is adamant that Molan is there for her work ethic and knowledge rather than to address any perceived gender imbalance.

“She’s a real fan and she knows her stuff,” says Vautin admiringly. “And she has worked hard to get where she is and she deserves to be there. She is more than holding her own — she is a real talent.” THE FOOTY SHOW, CHANNEL 9, THURSDAY, MIDNIGHT
