ENGLAND HARD FOE TO SEE PAST

Herald Sun - Switched On - - ON THE COUCH -

Taking their pool matches one game at a time looms as Australia’s biggest challenge going into the Rugby World Cup, Wallaby great John Eales warns.

He says the Wallabies will have to put thoughts of the third pool match — against RWC hosts England — out of their minds until the first two are completed.

The Wallabies, and their fans, still smart over their RWC final loss in 2003, when a drop goal from England’s Jonny Wilkinson in extra time cost Australia a third RWC crown.

“In tournaments like this, you have to look at your preparation differently,” says Eales, who captained Australia to its last World Cup win in 1999.

“You can’t look beyond the game you are playing. You have to win each of the pool matches.

“Australia is in a particularly difficult pool — we play Fiji and Uruguay, then England and Wales.”

Eales is in England as part of Fox Sports’ commentary team.

On Monday, the network launched its 24-hour dedicated RWC coverage on Fox Sports 502, which will broadcast all 48 World Cup matches live.
