RANDY HAS HAND IN PUPPET FUN
Comedian Sammy J and pottymouthed puppet Randy are a publicist’s nightmare.
But don’t be fooled by the self-deprecating duo who claim their new ABC comedy, Sammy J and Randy in Ricketts Lane, was shot on an iPhone and shouldn’t be watched “by anyone”.
Having toured the comedy circuit for years, this is the first foray into television for Sammy (Sam McMillan), and Randy (Heath McIvor), who says the secret to their success is “we’ve surrounded ourselves with people who can actually act”.
“That’s what you do when you want to make a TV show but have no idea how to do it,” he says. “The fact that they let us do it at all is ridiculous.
Sammy agrees. “Oh, it’ll be subject to parliamentary inquiry. I’d be shocked if the ABC commissions another comedy for years after the stench of this one. People will be turning off within three minutes.”
In their new sitcom, Sammy is “a very bad lawyer”, while his shifty housemate Randy spends his days scheming to win back his ex-wife, current affairs host Victoria Vincent, on whom he cheated “quite a bit”.
And if you do tune in, well, you’ve been warned, says Sammy. “You knew the risks. That should be the promo.”
