RELIVING THE SOUND OF MUSIC
It was Angela Bishop’s “pinch me moment” – sitting on a tour bus, driving high up in the snowy alps above Salzburg, Austria warbling away to The Sound Of Music.
As a 20-something backpacker, she’d been here, done that before, but the 50th anniversary of the much-loved film brought Ten’s entertainment guru back.
Only this time, Bishop was surrounded by the real actors who played the Von Trapp family of singers, who agreed to appear in an exclusive Australian TV special paying tribute to cinematic treasure.
Invited to Austria by the local tourist officialdom, Bishop found herself tripping down memory lane with longtime friend Nicholas Hammond (who played Friedrich Von Trapp); alongside his co-stars Debbie Turner (Marta), Heather Menzies (Louisa) and Duane Chase (“incorrigible” Kurt).
Bishop also revealed she has “formed a really close bond with Debbie.”
“I’m pinching myself now, when I open my email in the morning and Marta (Turner) has sent me an email. How good is that? We talk about when we should get a pink parasol for our daughter’s birthdays...it’s just been wonderful.”/
