ONE LONG STORY OF DECEPTION

Herald Sun - Switched On - - ON THE COUCH -

Here’s a novel promotion strategy: not only are the makers of American Horror Story not revealing anything about the new series, they’ve made a bunch of fake trailers to throw people off the scent.

Only one of the 21 teasers is real — but which one?

American fans will find out later today but the first episode doesn’t screen in Australia until Monday.

Creator Ryan Murphy has vaguely hinted the series will involve children and operatic themes, while FX CEO John Landgraf says the series will be “set in two time periods … but principally in the present”.

The supposed full title American Horror Story: The Mist was “accidentally” released on Rotten Tomatoes two weeks ago.

The deliberate strategy of misinformation has certainly got fans talking, with some arguing the new series will be about a cult, while others are betting on extraterrestrials.

“Leaked” set photos suggest the season has something to do with the fate of the late 16th century English settlers who disappeared from the socalled Lost Colony of Roanoke, in North Carolina.

But then again, why trust “set photos” any more than those 21 trailers?
