NOT A FAN OF THE UNDEAD

Herald Sun - Switched On - - ON THE COUCH -

Aussie actor Alycia DebnamCarey has spent two seasons now fighting off hordes of the undead on Fear The Walking Dead. But she admits she’s no fan of zombie films.

“To be honest I’m not really,” says the graduate from the Newtown High School of the Performing Arts. “I tried watching the movie Zombieland with Frank (Dillane who plays Nick) … but we couldn’t get through it. We were comparing what we do with the movie and it felt too strange.”

Debnam-Carey moved to LA to chase fame aged 18 but there were a couple of very lean years where she began to despair before Fear happened in late 2014 — the same year she got the role of Lexa in The 100.

“I was at a point in my career when it felt like things weren’t working out too well ... I was a bit deflated.”

She admits to being pessimistic about Fear when she first heard about it, that she wouldn’t get the role and that it “wouldn’t be my kind of thing”.

“But then I read it and it was so good. Then it all happened so quickly and so seamlessly.”

This is the Walking Dead universe and she’s keenly aware death can strike at any time.

“I try not to think about that too much ... I just hope they don’t kill me off because they don’t like me!” she laughs.
