SECOND FIDDLE CALLS HIS OWN TUNE

Tom Gleeson has finally struck paydirt after years playing second fiddle on other shows.

Gleeson’s ABC game show Hard Quiz, which premiered October 19, is a hit and looks set to go to a second season.

The success comes more than 12 years since his TV debut on Channel Ten’s skitHOUSE sketch comedy show.

Since then, the popular stand-up comedian has made guest appearances on everything from Good News Week to The Project and The Glasshouse, but has never snagged his own show.

Hard Quiz, an expanded quiz-style spin-off from Gleeson’s Hard Chat segment on Charlie Pickering’s The Weekly, has changed all that.

“I’ve had people telling me I should have my own show for the past 10 years but I’ve been in failed pilots that go nowhere or getting close to the host role and coming second,” he says.

A second season of Hard Quiz seems a mere formality, though there has been no official announcement.

“It looks promising,” Gleeson says. “If we do make it next year it would be after The Weekly. We’re doing 20 episodes of that from the beginning of February.”
