Mum does heavy lifting

Ask Khloe Kardashian’s personal trainer and guest star on her new TV series, Revenge Body who the real muscle is behind the makeover show and Gunnar Peterson is clear.

“Kris Jenner is the ultimate Guippetto,” Peterson says of Khloe’s mother and manager, in a reference to the puppeteer from famed children’s tale, Pinocchio.

“She’s lived the American dream, she made her own dreams come true and as a mum, people are like, ‘She did this to her kids, she did that to her kids’ … you know what she did? She helped all of her kids live out their dreams.”

The fitness guru, who counts Jennifer Lopez, Angelina Jolie and most of the Kardashians as clients, also drew direction from his mother when it came to his career.

“Initially I started working out because I was chubby. I was the fat kid. I was in Weight Watchers when I was 10 years old.

“My mum would take me to meetings and I got into the exercise part on a regular basis in college, but there was also nachos and beer at college. After that I got into the nutrition side of it and was diligent with the workouts.”

Peterson believes Revenge Body shows getting into shape is something everyone can do, with or without a big budget.

“Rich and famous, or poor and infamous, if they’re in there [the gym] and there have been changes made, it’s because they’ve worked. Your tax bracket doesn’t entitle you to a good body, that’s for sure.” / HOLLY BYRNES
