A LIFE OR DEATH DECISION
He’s the tall, dark, handsome man wooing Sophie Monk in tonight’s first episode of The Bachelorette. But away from the show, Gold Coast entertainer Apollo Jackson, real name Jake Spence, has quite a story to tell. Just two and a half years ago Spence suffered a heart attack — aged 22 — and was in critical care for two weeks. “I was super lucky. I was sitting at a friend’s place having dinner, and I had really bad anxiety at the time,” he says. “I remember sitting there, shaking, because there was a lot of things going on. “Then my ears started ringing, my vision went, and both my arms went numb. And I just dropped.” Spence’s friend quickly drove him to hospital, where he was diagnosed as having a heart attack. At the time Spencep ( (pictured) pictured) was working in security and had serio serious financial troubles. He was also overweight. That health scare forced him to re-evalu re-evaluate his life, and focus onwon what he really wanted to do. So Spence de decided to go into s show business. He si signed on for TheT BacheloretteBachelo as he fi finds it difficu difficult to meet g girls while travelli travelling. “I’m lookin looking for someone who who’s fun, down to earth earth, has a great persona personality — someone you can have a laughwlaugh with,” he says./says.
