SHE’S AS HAPPY AS LARRY

Herald Sun - Switched On - - ON THE BOX - / CLARE RIGDEN

When they called “cut” on series eight of Curb Your Enthusiasm in 2011 — the last thing Susie Essman, who stars in the cult comedy as Susie Greene, expected was to be back filming the next series six years later.

But that’s precisely what happened, after series creator — and Seinfeld co-creator, Larry David — decided it was time to revisit the show.

“It had been six years! Which is crazy,” Essman, 62, says.

“I’ve never heard of a show coming back six years later. But that is another indication that it is Larry’s world and we are just living in it.”

Essman says that six months after the show ended, Larry called her to say he was done.

“And he was absolutely definitive. I remember I started crying. Like, weeping. Because the thought of never being Susie Green again — never putting on those crazy outfits — the fact I had to let go of this character, was so sad to me.”

Fast forward to 2016, and, on a whim, Essman texted David. She says she had a feeling that he might be resurrecting the show.

“He texts back, ‘I’m seriously thinking of coming back’,” she recollects. “And once he said that, I knew we were there.”
