Accused kidnapper’s rape claim

Herald Sun - - NEWS - WAYNE FLOWER

A WOMAN accused of kidnapping another woman has alleged she was raped by her victim while supposedly holding her captive.

Yixuan Lei, of Carlton, appeared in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, where the court heard the bizarre accusations.

Her lawyer, George Balot, said his client was sexually assaulted by the woman during the hour-long period she was allegedly holding her captive. “My client’s version is she was sexually assaulted by the victim. In fact, she was raped during the hour,” he said.

Mr Balot told the court sexual crimes detectives were treating the allegations seriously and investigating the alleged rape.

He suggested it was not the first time Ms Lei’s alleged vic- tim had sexually assaulted her.

Ms Lei, a Chinese national and student, has been charged with kidnapping, theft, assault and possession of a knife.

The alleged kidnapping happened on June 19 at apartments on Arden St in North Melbourne. Ms Lei, who is free on bail, consented to police obtaining her DNA.

She will return to court for a preliminary hearing in October.
