OUR tales of un­for­tu­nate name bloop­ers re­minded Ver­mont’s Ian We­ick­hardt of when his old em­ployer, the PMG, moved HQ to Wil­liam St and a name was needed for the build­ing.

“The best that cor­po­rate man­age­ment could come up with was an amal­gam of the first syl­la­bles of ‘com­mu­ni­ca­tions’ and ‘postal’ — namely, Com­post House,” he says.

“For­tu­nately, some­one with com­mon sense pointed out the over­whelm­ing in­fer­ence — and the name fi­nally cho­sen was sim­ply Com­mu­ni­ca­tions House.”
