RE­CENT sto­ries about neon signs re­minded Roger Blair, from Al­tona, of one in Gee­long Rd, Footscray in the 1940s that read “Apex Belt­ing” and re­mains in place to this day.

“My brother and I were ter­ri­fied be­cause Dad used to say, ‘if you don’t be­have your­self you’re going there and they have belt­ings!’.

“We never for­got that.”
