BIG-not­ing blokes have blasted their way into an all-Vic­to­rian 2017 Her­ald

Sun Aria fi­nal. Four men from sub­ur­ban Mel­bourne will con­test Aus­tralia’s rich­est vo­cal prize for emerg­ing clas­si­cal singers.

So­prano Olivia Cran­well, from Malvern East, was the only fe­male to tri­umph in the semi­fi­nals in Bal­larat on Satur­day night.

The win­ning men were tenors Shanul Sharma and Michael Petruc­celli, bari­tone Raphael Wong and counter tenor Max Riebl.

“Maybe there’s a rich vein of form among the gents. I’m told it’s un­prece­dented in this com­pe­ti­tion,” Petruc­celli said.

All five singers will com­pete for cash prizes and schol­ar­ships to­talling $60,000 on Oc­to­ber 25.
