Sun Aria final. Four men from suburban Melbourne will contest Australia’s richest vocal prize for emerging classical singers.
Soprano Olivia Cranwell, from Malvern East, was the only female to triumph in the semifinals in Ballarat on Saturday night.
The winning men were tenors Shanul Sharma and Michael Petruccelli, baritone Raphael Wong and counter tenor Max Riebl.
“Maybe there’s a rich vein of form among the gents. I’m told it’s unprecedented in this competition,” Petruccelli said.
All five singers will compete for cash prizes and scholarships totalling $60,000 on October 25.
