Driver to stand trial
THE bus driver behind the wheel of a coach that crashed into the Montague St bridge has been ordered to stand trial.
Jack Aston pleaded not guilty to 23 charges over the February 2016 crash that left more than a dozen people injured. Investigators found no traces of drugs or alcohol in his system, and ruled out speed or distractions as contributing factors, following the crash into Melbourne’s most-hit bridge.
In a record of his interview with police, Mr Aston said his sunvisors were down amid claims he may not have seen signs flagging the bridge’s height. Mr Aston will appear at the County Court today.
