VICTORIANS who stutter or have ever experienced stuttering are being sought for a landmark study aimed at finding the genes that predispose people to the speech problem.

Melbourne scientists at Murdoch Children’s Research Institute are leading a national project to recruit 3000 volunteers to uncover the genetic cause in the hope of creating personalised treatments and early intervention.

The Genetics of Stuttering Study will ask adults and children aged over seven to fill in a survey and give a saliva sample.
