THE peaceful hills of Puckapunyal turned into a war zone yesterday as the army unleashed its military might.

In a powerful live fire demonstration, soldiers on land and in the air performed an explosive and disciplined combat team attack.

It featured snipers, missile launchers, battle tanks and light armoured vehicles, with air support from helicopters and RAAF jets.

The army’s commander of forces, Major General Gus McLachlan, said the annual event was the army’s largest firepower demonstration.

“(It) provides our soldiers with an opportunity to train in and experience a live fire setting, ensuring our soldiers are always prepared for combat operations,” he said.

The demonstration was watched by senior Defence Force figures, defence industry chiefs and federal MPs.
