Budget win for health

Herald Sun - - WORLD -

JACINDA Ardern’s Labour government has delivered multi-billion-dollar spending surprises for health and education in its first budget, along with a run of fiscal surpluses.

Ms Ardern — who earlier played down the odds of a splurge — pointed to a need to “rebuild” after nine years of underfunding of schools and hospitals.

The centrepiece was a $2.94 billion rise in health funding over four years and $1.46 billion for schools, along with boosts for justice, housing and child poverty initiatives.
