15-year-old in­ter­na­tional en­tre­pre­neur Will Deeth is on his way to mak­ing a mil­lion dol­lars — and it is in no way un­re­al­is­tic

meet the 15-year-old who is on his way to be­com­ing a mil­lion­aire

Will Deeth is a hum­ble young man. He has a kind, boy­ish smile that ra­di­ates warmth, a sen­si­bil­ity that most peo­ple wouldn’t ex­pect of a per­son his age — in fact, he doesn’t seem his age at all.

Will is 15-years-old and is run­ning his own busi­ness, Will Be Fun, where he im­ports toys from China and sells them through a range of dif­fer­ent out­lets in­clud­ing mar­kets, on­line and pop-up stores.

At 14 the High­fields teenager made $10,000 in one week, how­ever choos­ing to de­liver a very mod­est outlook to his very high achieve­ment.

Mean­while, Will at­tends high-school, has a busi­ness coach and sur­pris­ingly main­tains a rel­a­tively nor­mal lifestyle.

He spends time with friends and fam­ily, plays com­puter games, and re­mark­ably, has a week­end job wash­ing dishes — be­cause his par­ents want Will to know what it’s like to work for some­one else — ul­ti­mately, to stay hum­ble.

Will is run­ning his own stall for Will Be Fun in Grand Cen­tral over Christ­mas, and he’s cur­rently in a race with his sis­ter to be the first to make a mil­lion dol­lars.

“I was sav­ing up to buy my first house at 11,” Will smiles, an aware­ness in his eyes.

It isn’t some­thing said with a non­cha­lant ig­no­rance or lack of un­der­stand­ing that teenagers of­ten carry — it is clear that Will un­der­stands money.

Will and his mother Lisa are talk­ing about profit mar­gins, ex­pen­di­ture and mul­ti­ple other el­e­ments that are a part of run­ning a busi­ness and fi­nance in gen­eral, and I po­litely lis­ten in awe, hop­ing that I might learn a thing or two.

It begs the ques­tion though, how does this young man know all of these things as op­posed to oth­ers his age?

My sis­ter and I have a com­pe­ti­tion as to who can make a mil­lion dol­lars first, so that’s my next goal.


“Will has al­ways been aware of and has al­ways known the value of money,” says his mother Lisa, who owns I Will Im­port, a com­pany that also im­ports toys from China.

ed­u­ca­tion on im­port­ing, so that peo­ple can es­tab­lish them­selves and fur­ther their ca­reers in the in­dus­try from the ground up.

Will took his first busi­ness trip to China when he was 13 with his mother Lisa, and af­ter get­ting the tick of ap­proval to from her to spend his own money that he had saved up from odd jobs, work­ing on the farm, and Christ­mas and birth­day presents to in­vest in prod­ucts to bring back and sell in Aus­tralia.

Lisa en­cour­aged his en­tre­pre­neur­ial skills and Will set out in pur­suit of prod­ucts unique to the Aus­tralian mar­ket.

He came back with mul­ti­ple prod­ucts, some of which had never been sold in Aus­tralia be­fore.

Will be­gan sell­ing these at the PCYC mar­kets, mak­ing hun­dreds of dol­lars a day.

It seems that Will Deeth, what­ever he has wished to achieve, has chased it and earned it.

With his nat­u­ral peo­ple skills, Will start­ing at­tract­ing peo­ple to their stall by sim­ply play­ing with the prod­ucts.

Soon enough, peo­ple couldn’t get past the dis­play — Will was at one end of the stall play­ing with the toys and show­ing cus­tomers, and Lisa was at the other end tak­ing money, sell­ing them as fast as they could go.

The sit­u­a­tion was the same when a cus­tomer sug­gested that Will could sell his prod­ucts at a pop-up store in a shop­ping cen­tre — Will and Lisa took to Clifford Gar­dens, and they gained mas­sive success.

Nat­u­rally, Will’s de­vel­op­ment in the busi­ness arena didn’t come with­out ed­u­ca­tion, and he has learnt how to man­age the mar­ket — who to ap­peal to, what works, what doesn’t and the huge amount of vari­ables in­volved in run­ning a busi­ness.

Will and Lisa are very col­lo­quial and unim­pos­ing in their busi­ness sense, and clearly, their pass­ing of fi­nan­cial data and pro­ce­dure in­for­ma­tion is more than just a knack, or a pas­sion — it is a learnt be­hav­iour.

Will’s in­ter­est in busi­ness world is ev­i­dent, how­ever his aware­ness of money is not de­rived purely from en­trepreneur­ship. “Will has a dif­fer­ent way of look­ing at money — he’s fo­cused, he doesn’t look at it in the here and now, it isn’t in­stant grat­i­fi­ca­tion, he’s more look­ing at long term,” Lisa says. While Will’s success has cer­tainly es­tab­lished him in the busi­ness world, it has not lim­ited his abil­ity from en­joy­ing the carefree lifestyle of a child — Will spends time with his friends go­ing to the movies, play­ing games, and re­lax­ing to­gether. He will be em­ploy­ing his two older sib­lings, Ben and Tif­fany, over the Christ­mas break in his pop-up store in Grand Cen­tral. “It’s fun [work­ing with them] — it’s peo­ple you know you can trust, you can talk money with,” Will says. Will is head­ing to China for busi­ness again on two oc­ca­sions next year, in April and Septem­ber. Run­ning his busi­ness from home in High­fields means that he can work to his own sched­ule, and this is some­thing that Lisa is par­tic­u­larly con­scious of. How­ever, work­ing his week­end job in the kitchen at Gab­bin­bar Homestead is a very dif­fer­ent ex­pe­ri­ence to oper­at­ing Will Be Fun, but one in which Lisa and Will are both grate­ful for. “It’s very dif­fer­ent work­ing for some­one else com­pared to run­ning your own busi­ness — it’s the dif­fer­ence be­tween know­ing when money is go­ing down the drain in your own busi­ness, and when all you have is that job, and you lost it, it’d be ter­ri­ble,” Will says. The Deeth fam­ily have been in High­fields for six years, and were in Toowoomba prior to that. Nat­u­rally, peo­ple are shocked at the tal­ent and age of Will Deeth, but it cer­tainly hasn’t de­terred the vast ma­jor­ity of peo­ple. His flair and tena­cious yet hum­ble abil­ity to con­duct him­self not only in the busi­ness world but even un­der the of­ten­times con­fus­ing veil of busi­ness con­ver­sa­tion is ex­cep­tional. His con­gru­ency in pas­sion, busi­ness knowl­edge, and — above all — his grounded na­ture is ex­tra­or­di­nary. Watch out world — Will Deeth is well and truly on his way.
