CAN AND WILL
15-year-old international entrepreneur Will Deeth is on his way to making a million dollars — and it is in no way unrealistic
meet the 15-year-old who is on his way to becoming a millionaire
Will Deeth is a humble young man. He has a kind, boyish smile that radiates warmth, a sensibility that most people wouldn’t expect of a person his age — in fact, he doesn’t seem his age at all.
Will is 15-years-old and is running his own business, Will Be Fun, where he imports toys from China and sells them through a range of different outlets including markets, online and pop-up stores.
At 14 the Highfields teenager made $10,000 in one week, however choosing to deliver a very modest outlook to his very high achievement.
Meanwhile, Will attends high-school, has a business coach and surprisingly maintains a relatively normal lifestyle.
He spends time with friends and family, plays computer games, and remarkably, has a weekend job washing dishes — because his parents want Will to know what it’s like to work for someone else — ultimately, to stay humble.
Will is running his own stall for Will Be Fun in Grand Central over Christmas, and he’s currently in a race with his sister to be the first to make a million dollars.
“I was saving up to buy my first house at 11,” Will smiles, an awareness in his eyes.
It isn’t something said with a nonchalant ignorance or lack of understanding that teenagers often carry — it is clear that Will understands money.
Will and his mother Lisa are talking about profit margins, expenditure and multiple other elements that are a part of running a business and finance in general, and I politely listen in awe, hoping that I might learn a thing or two.
It begs the question though, how does this young man know all of these things as opposed to others his age?
My sister and I have a competition as to who can make a million dollars first, so that’s my next goal.
— WILL DEETH
“Will has always been aware of and has always known the value of money,” says his mother Lisa, who owns I Will Import, a company that also imports toys from China.
I Will Import was established to teach people how to import and the various components that make up the industry, and customers of I Will Import can join Will and Lisa on buying trips to China.
It is essentially the aim of I Will Import to create a basis of

education on importing, so that people can establish themselves and further their careers in the industry from the ground up.
Will took his first business trip to China when he was 13 with his mother Lisa, and after getting the tick of approval to from her to spend his own money that he had saved up from odd jobs, working on the farm, and Christmas and birthday presents to invest in products to bring back and sell in Australia.
Lisa encouraged his entrepreneurial skills and Will set out in pursuit of products unique to the Australian market.
He came back with multiple products, some of which had never been sold in Australia before.
Will began selling these at the PCYC markets, making hundreds of dollars a day.
It seems that Will Deeth, whatever he has wished to achieve, has chased it and earned it.
With his natural people skills, Will starting attracting people to their stall by simply playing with the products.
Soon enough, people couldn’t get past the display — Will was at one end of the stall playing with the toys and showing customers, and Lisa was at the other end taking money, selling them as fast as they could go.
The situation was the same when a customer suggested that Will could sell his products at a pop-up store in a shopping centre — Will and Lisa took to Clifford Gardens, and they gained massive success.
Naturally, Will’s development in the business arena didn’t come without education, and he has learnt how to manage the market — who to appeal to, what works, what doesn’t and the huge amount of variables involved in running a business.
Will and Lisa are very colloquial and unimposing in their business sense, and clearly, their passing of financial data and procedure information is more than just a knack, or a passion — it is a learnt behaviour.
Will’s interest in business world is evident, however his awareness of money is not derived purely from entrepreneurship. “Will has a different way of looking at money — he’s focused, he doesn’t look at it in the here and now, it isn’t instant gratification, he’s more looking at long term,” Lisa says. While Will’s success has certainly established him in the business world, it has not limited his ability from enjoying the carefree lifestyle of a child — Will spends time with his friends going to the movies, playing games, and relaxing together. He will be employing his two older siblings, Ben and Tiffany, over the Christmas break in his pop-up store in Grand Central. “It’s fun [working with them] — it’s people you know you can trust, you can talk money with,” Will says. Will is heading to China for business again on two occasions next year, in April and September. Running his business from home in Highfields means that he can work to his own schedule, and this is something that Lisa is particularly conscious of. However, working his weekend job in the kitchen at Gabbinbar Homestead is a very different experience to operating Will Be Fun, but one in which Lisa and Will are both grateful for. “It’s very different working for someone else compared to running your own business — it’s the difference between knowing when money is going down the drain in your own business, and when all you have is that job, and you lost it, it’d be terrible,” Will says. The Deeth family have been in Highfields for six years, and were in Toowoomba prior to that. Naturally, people are shocked at the talent and age of Will Deeth, but it certainly hasn’t deterred the vast majority of people. His flair and tenacious yet humble ability to conduct himself not only in the business world but even under the oftentimes confusing veil of business conversation is exceptional. His congruency in passion, business knowledge, and — above all — his grounded nature is extraordinary. Watch out world — Will Deeth is well and truly on his way.
