MEET AT THE KERB
Kerb Café and Gelato at the Highfields Village Shopping Centre is going from strength to strength
In 2013, a delightful café with a difference was welcomed at the Highfields Village Shopping Centre — Kerb Café and Gelato. Owners Marius and Angelic Kruger had a small coffee stall for three years and then Kerb opened in 2013, so their friendly faces were already known to locals.
With more than 20 years experience in hospitality, Marius and Angelic love working in the industry.
“Our clients are our friends — Highfields is like one big family where we all share life together,” they say.
“90 per cent of our clients don’t have to order their coffee as we already know what they have before they ask.”
Marius and his wife Angelic immigrated from South Africa in 2006. They have three boys together. Marius is a well-known face in the Highfields community, as he is also the minister of religion and pastor of the local Highfields Community Church.
Kerb is renowned for their delicious coffee, gelato and more recently the Kerb Burger Bar, open from Tuesday to Saturday into night-time trading as well.
“The burgers are a great option for families and are affordable too,” Marius says.
“It’s more than a business selling coffee — for us this is our passion, and we love sharing that with the local community — our family.
“Everything is made on-site, we love what we do, and that passion comes out in our service and quality of food.”
Soon Kerb will be offering their own cold-pressed coffee and award-winning coffee blends from the leading coffee roasters in Australia, and one of the best in the world.
Kerb have recently been invited into the Toby’s Estate family, which opens up the latest, newest developments in coffee.
Their gelato is made in-store with fresh ingredients, from a gelato machine imported from Italy.
Marius and his team also receive ongoing training from one of the best gelato masters in the world.
While Marius has 14 staff, he also works closely with Teen Challenge in Toowoomba, giving young people the opportunity to rehabilitate and re-enter the workforce after life-controlling problems.
