Meet Susan Jones, a Highfields local who is avidly involved in the community
How long have you lived in Highfields?
I have lived in the Highfields region for around nine years now and work in Highfields.
What brought you to the Highfields region?
My husband and I loved the idea of raising our children in a family oriented community. We live in a quiet street on half an acre which is perfect for our children to be able to kick a soccer ball and ride their bikes. The quality schools and extra-curricular opportunities for them is also a big plus.
How have you seen the region change since you have been living and working here?
There is so much growth in the region. The development of the new sporting complex is an amazing addition to Highfields as well as two fantastic high schools. There are so many families moving to the area to give their children a taste of the country lifestyle while still being close to everything they need.
How do you participate in the community?
I am one of the organisers of the Highfields Village Markets which are on the second Saturday of every month. I am also the media coordinator and one of the canteen convenors for the Highfields Football Club and I’m a teacher at Mary Mackillop Catholic College.
What do you love most about the Highfields region?
The thing I love the most about Highfields is the community. I am involved in many facets and I love that I can be a part of such a wonderful place with great people.
Where is your favourite Highfields region hotspot?
I enjoy visiting the many amazing local cafés we have in the region.
I would like to see some more options for young people in the area. More parks for little ones and something to keep teenagers occupied would be great.
What would you like to see for the Highfields region in the future?
Where do you like to take friends or family members when they come to the area?
We love taking people to eat at the Highfields Tavern or the Meringandan Pub. We also love to explore the Cuckoo Clock Centre or Danish Flower Art. The Highfields Village Markets are amazing!
Describe a favourite memory from your time in Highfields?
My favourite time over the last few years has certainly been becoming more involved in the local community by starting (with my amazing friend Amy Manz) the Highfields Village Markets. It has been an honour to create a beautiful market to showcase and support locals.
