From the Shire President

Hills Gazette (Kalamunda) - - NEWS -

The old adage ‘one man’s trash is another man’s treasure’ is alive and well in the Shire of Mundaring, thanks to a re-use shop at the Mathieson Road Waste Transfer Station in Chidlow. The purpose-built sea container, known as Grab n Go @ Mathieson, means our residents have the opportunity to recycle suitable household items. It also means they can help themselves to anything for free that they may have a use for. With the Shire’s annual bulk rubbish collection underway, it’s a perfect opportunity for residents to reconsider whether some of their items originally destined for the tip, could be salvaged before going to landfill. Grab n Go @ Mathieson, which opened just over a year ago, is the first shop of its kind in our shire. I’m very pleased we have been able to make the re-use shop available to our community. Shire officers and councillors take our environmental responsibilities very seriously, particularly when it comes to managing waste. We want to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill in our shire by re-using and recovering valuable resources. Think of all the natural resources used to create everyday items that we use around the home, and all the energy and effort that had gone into making those things. Instead of wasting these resources in landfill once we have finished using them, we can rethink our rubbish and choose to re-use, upcycle and recycle. Grab n Go @ Mathiseon is a fantastic initiative benefiting both our community and the environment.
