In­vest­ing in area

SWAN HILLS MLA Jes­sica Shaw said the La­bor Govern­ment’s first State Bud­get de­liv­ered strong in­vest­ment in the area, with a fo­cus on job cre­ation, Metronet and in­vest­ment in health and ed­u­ca­tion.

The Bud­get locked in elec­tion com­mit­ments to fin­ish the For­rest­field-Air­port Link with new sta­tions at Bel­mont, Air­port Cen­tral and For­rest­field, and a $28.2 mil­lion plan to re­lo­cate Mid­land Sta­tion and ex­tend the line to Belle­vue.

An­other $1.4 mil­lion was on the ta­ble for a Swan Val­ley De­vel­op­ment Pack­age to boost tourism and jobs in the area.

Ms Shaw said Lo­cal Projects, Lo­cal Jobs was de­liv­er­ing fund­ing to grass­roots ini­tia­tives to com­mu­ni­ties in­clud­ing:

$167,000 for up­grades to Chid­low Recre­ation Ground’s light­ing

$20,000 in­di­vid­ual grants for schools across Swan Hills

$73,500 for gym equip­ment, light­ing and re­fur­bish­ment of Gidge­gan­nup Recre­ation Grounds

$100,000 for up­grades to the skate park at Mt He­lena’s Elsie Austin Oval

$138,000 for bus shel­ters through­out the Swan Hills elec­torate

$63,000 for Eques­trian WA’s new broad­cast­ing car­a­van fa­cil­ity

$20,000 to com­plete the Chid­low RSL me­mo­rial and im­prove the Com­mu­nity Hall $80,000 in fund­ing for new equip­ment for lo­cal vol­un­teer bush­fire brigades $30,000 for a new food van for Mun­dar­ing Ro­tary $3000 for new ca­noes for the Eastern Hills Scout Group.
