Shoppers dig deep for dogs

Hills Gazette (Kalamunda) - - NEWS -

MUNDARING is home to one of WA’s top dogs, with shoppers donating more money to Guide Dogs Australia’s collection dog at a local supermarket than most locations in the state.

Shoppers and team members at Coles Mundaring have contributed $2517 towards a record-breaking $1.26 million raised for Guide Dogs Australia.

It was the most raised in a 12-month period through in-store collection dogs and the sale of Guide Dogs eco bags.

Guide Dogs Australia national manager Sacha Koltun said the ongoing support from the local community helped the charity to breed, raise and train guide dogs for people who were blind or had low vision.

“Thanks to their donations, we will be able to train 25 guide dogs to give independence and confidence to a person who is blind or has low vision,” she said.

It is estimated about 1 million Australians will have complete or partial vision loss by 2020.
