Local government election turnout improves
COMMUNITY Newspaper Group urged voters to play their part in this year’s local government elections and you have responded admirably, with voter turnout up throughout Perth.
Across 30 metropolitan local councils, the average voter turnout was 34.58 per cent – up from an average 28.59 per cent turnout across the same 30 councils two years ago.
WA Electoral Commissioner David Kerslake said that while he would like the rate to go up even more, it was a pleasing increase on recent elections.
“Local governments continue to play a very important role and it is great to see more electors getting out to have their say in who governs their local community.”
Congratulations people of Perth.
We asked you to get more involved in the election of your local governments – and you heeded the call.
