Bil­go­man swim­ming chal­lenge

SWIM­MERS chas­ing a fit­ness goal will lap up a dis­tance chal­lenge at an Olympic-sized pool in the great out­doors.

Mun­dar­ing Shire ini­tia­tive Lap Lovers is a per­sonal chal­lenge pro­gram run at the Bil­go­man Aquatic Cen­tre in Dar­ling­ton.

The chal­lenge is suit­able for swim­mers of vary­ing abil­i­ties look­ing to take part with­out the pres­sure of a com­pe­ti­tion, but test­ing enough to push the in­di­vid­ual to boost their strength and over­all health.

Par­tic­i­pants record their swim­ming dis­tances and are able to com­pare them with other known dis­tances.

Swim­mers who com­plete 5000 laps of Bil­go­man pool will achieve the equiv­a­lent dis­tance of swim­ming from Fre­man­tle to Bus­sel­ton. Those who swim 760 laps could con­sider the dis­tance as train­ing to swim the English Chan­nel.

Lanes of the out­door pool are ded­i­cated to lap swim­ming from 5.30am to 8.30am dur­ing week­days.

Lane ropes are moved at 8.30am, with one lane re­main­ing open for lap swim­ming un­til 6.30pm and two lanes from 6.30pm to 8pm.

The best times for lap swim­ming on week­days are be­fore 9.30am, be­tween noon and 1pm and af­ter 6pm, with ex­tended lap train­ing avail­able when lanes are not used for swim­ming lessons.

Train­ing over week­ends and pub­lic hol­i­days is avail­able across the en­tire pool from 7am to 8.30am, with two lanes re­served from 8.30am to 11am.
