Gilchrist presentation caps off dream debut
TIM David (21) burst into the Big Bash League with a dream debut.
Adam Gilchrist presented the former Scotch College student with his cap on January 1 and he went on to form a winning partnership with Perth Scorchers skipper Adam Voges against the Sydney Sixers.
“I met Gilly the other day; he’s obviously been there and done it, and to be able to have him say a few words and present me with my hat was awesome,” David said.
“He reminded me to always have an attitude to help the team out and give a lot to them, and that I’ll get more out of it if I do that.”
The Scorchers debutant, who trains at the WACA Academy under mentors like Geoff Marsh, said it was fantastic to get out there and play for the side.
“It was really, really exciting, especially to play a home game; we get such good support (at the WACA),” he said.
David played one of the shots of the night, smashing a six in the second-last over of the match.
“I thought it might be a bit tight, so I thought I’d better make contact,” he said.
“To get us closer to winning felt great.”
The Scorchers defeated the Sixers with five balls to spare (4-170 to 4167).
In between training, David studies commerce at the UWA. His goal for the year is to keep enjoying the ride.
“I’m studying a bit, so I want to keep doing well with that and trying to progress with my cricket,” he said.
