Teen tilt for tennis title
RISING tennis star Derek Pham, from Maida Vale, has booked a place for the World Junior Tennis finals in the Czech Republic later this year after a top-four finish in the Asia/Oceania event in Thailand earlier this month.
The Mazenod College Year 9 student was a member of the under-14 Australian junior boys team which defeated Lebanon, Indonesia, Korea and Qatar in the round-robin stages, before falling to China and Thailand in the playoffs of the World Junior Tennis Asia/Oceania event in Bangkok.
The World Junior Tennis finals will see Australia take on the world’s top 16 nations from the other four qualifying zones – Africa, North/Central America, South America and Europe.
They will be competing for the title of the world’s best under-14s tennis nation.
The finals will be held in Prostejov, Czech Republic, from August 6 to 11.
Derek Pham will represent Australia in the World Junior Tennis finals in August.
