Teen tilt for ten­nis ti­tle

RIS­ING ten­nis star Derek Pham, from Maida Vale, has booked a place for the World Ju­nior Ten­nis fi­nals in the Czech Repub­lic later this year af­ter a top-four fin­ish in the Asia/Ocea­nia event in Thai­land ear­lier this month.

The Mazenod Col­lege Year 9 stu­dent was a mem­ber of the un­der-14 Aus­tralian ju­nior boys team which de­feated Le­banon, In­done­sia, Korea and Qatar in the round-robin stages, be­fore fall­ing to China and Thai­land in the play­offs of the World Ju­nior Ten­nis Asia/Ocea­nia event in Bangkok.

The World Ju­nior Ten­nis fi­nals will see Aus­tralia take on the world’s top 16 na­tions from the other four qual­i­fy­ing zones – Africa, North/Cen­tral Amer­ica, South Amer­ica and Europe.

They will be com­pet­ing for the ti­tle of the world’s best un­der-14s ten­nis na­tion.

The fi­nals will be held in Proste­jov, Czech Repub­lic, from Au­gust 6 to 11.

Derek Pham will rep­re­sent Aus­tralia in the World Ju­nior Ten­nis fi­nals in Au­gust.
