Hills rain deluge
OVERFLOWING lakes and waterfalls are expected to attract record numbers of visitors to the Perth Hills as the wave of wet weather rolls into the weekend. An abundance of reserves, parks, trails and spectacular forests lie to the east of the city, stretching across the Shire of Mundaring into the Avon Valley and down to the City of Kalamunda. Among the jewels in the crown is Lake Leschenaultia, the railway dam that became a recreational lake and holds about 520 million litres of water. Entry is free to the 168ha park with trails, camping and weekend cafe open all year. Visitors are encouraged to bring kayaks at this time of year when canoe hire is not available.
