Calvin charts course

Hills Gazette - - NEWS -

HELENA College songwriter Calvin Bennett’s single with singer Farraday Tween debuted in the top 100 chart of triple j Unearthed.

The guitar-player from Darlington and his Currambine band mate recently caught the attention of music producer Noah Shilkin, vice-president of WAM, who helped the 13-yearold talents fine-tune their single for the radio station’s Unearthed High competition.

Calvin’s mother Elodie said the teens’ track Meaning of Life, winner of the WAM Song of the Year under-14 category, did not make the final cut in the triple j competition.

“They did debut at number 15 on the overall Unearthed top 100 chart though, which is incredible because the chart isn’t just for high schoolers,” she said.

The next challenge for the talented teens is their first allages Gozzy Rock band competition over the weekend.

They were selected out of 54 bands for the final 12 in the City of Gosnells’ contemporary music event for original music.

The young musicians are hoping to add to their triumph at the City of Joondalup Defeat the Beat 2017 competition in April and first place at the battle of the bands event Scholarpalooza 2017.
