Hur­dler hopes to peak for sea­son

WATTLE Grove hur­dler An­toine Var­gi­olu (14) is train­ing at the Aus­tralian In­sti­tute of Sport in Can­berra, hop­ing for a record-break­ing show­ing when the sea­son starts this month.

It fol­lows an im­pres­sive show­ing at the Malaysian Athletics Cham­pi­onships where Var­gi­olu won sil­ver in the 100m hur­dles fi­nal. He was also part of the 4x100m sil­ver medal and 4x400m bronze medal win­ning WA re­lay teams at the in­ter­na­tional cham­pi­onships.

Ear­lier this year Var­gi­olu won gold at the Perth State Track Cham­pi­onships in the 90m and 200m hur­dle events. He holds the Aus­tralian 80m hur­dles record as well as state records and na­tional ti­tles for sprints and hur­dles.

Var­gi­olu, a mem­ber of the South­ern Dis­tricts Lit­tle Athletics Cen­tre, said he was train­ing four days a week ahead of the new sea­son.
