Colour in the House

Hills Gazette - - LET'S EAT -

A MIDLAND-based respite group is more visible in the community after decking out its transit van in eye-catching artwork.

Hamersley House community and day respite manager Jacqui Stockton said the centre was designed for people receiving full-time care at home who had a disability or age related illness.

Mrs Stockton said caring for a loved one at home could be very demanding.

“Global Care Group recognises this and in 2007 established Hamersley House, a day respite centre where loved ones can be cared for during the day in a secure home-like environment, Monday to Friday from 8am to 4pm,” she said.

“Hamersley House provides carers with peace of mind, knowing their loved ones are receiving the best in care.

“Guests are able to meet people in a similar situation and spend time doing a range of activities, whether that be a favourite hobby, or trying something new such as fishing, computers or arts and crafts.

Guests leave with a feeling of belonging, as they form friendships with other guests and staff at the centre.”

Mrs Stockton said Hamersley House was funded by the Commonwealth Government’s National Respite for Carers program.

“We service the whole of Perth Metro East, including Midland, High Wycombe, Bassendean, Swan View, Beechboro, Bullsbrook, Lower Chittering, Ellenbrook, Kalamunda, Lesmurdie and surrounding areas,” she said.
