Export cruelty

Hills Gazette - - LETTERS -

LIKE many people, I watched with horror as the realities of live animal export were exposed on Sixty Minutes.

Live export is clearly going to be a defining issue in the next Federal election and for many it will have a significant impact on how we choose to vote.

I will be watching with interest to see how Ken Wyatt will vote on the upcoming Live Export Bill.

Hopefully, this vote will go a long way toward bringing an end to the unconscionable cruelty of live export.

Farmers don’t need live export and suggesting that they do is scaremongering – what they need is the help and support of the government to diversify and transition away from this unsustainable trade.

I don’t know of any farmer that wants to put the animals they have reared through the hell of a journey to the Middle East.

At this point in our evolution as a society, it would be encouraging to know that we won’t stand for unnecessary cruelty just to generate money.

We have to be better than that. for more than 40 years.

I care about my quality of life here.

Perth Airport has been holding talks with the public in Forrestfield about the new runway.

I have been daily to listen to them; each time different people manning the desk and different answers. Is Forrestfield going to be affected by the new runway? Yes, no, a little bit, back to yes, hugely.

As the runway is going to be 2km closer to Forrestfield, yes we are going to have a big impact, especially noise levels.

Please, can we have the truth out there.

Submissions about issues facing the new runway are closing soon.
