THE Shire of Mundaring is on the hunt for volunteers for what might be considered one of the best jobs in one of Perth’s most spectacular tourist destinations.

The job title is camp host and the workplace is Lake Leschenaultia in Chidlow.

Responsibilities include closing park gates at sundown and assisting campers after hours.

Just 45 minutes drive from the CBD but a world away from the hustle and bustle of city life, Lake Leschenaultia is a 168ha bushland reserve known for its canoeing, swimming, cycling, camping and barbecue facilities.

Lake Leschenaultia team leader Neil Fletcher is hoping to create a dedicated pool of camp hosts to be included in an annual roster throughout the year.

“Our camp hosts are considered the after-hours eyes and ears at the Lake and a great source of support for our campers,” he said.

Mr Fletcher said the greatest perk of being a camp host was waking up to stunning views of the lake and bushland.

Hosts are also provided with a free site for their caravan, plus power and water are provided at no charge.

“By targeting grey nomads, it is hoped that our hosts bring a wealth of life experience with them and then share their Lake Leschenaultia experiences with others once they return to the road,” he said.
