Rain delays burn
THIS week’s wet weather forced the delay of a controlled burn to protect one of Perth’s growing areas from future fires. The Parks and Wildlife Service burnt 10ha on Wednesday in the Gnangara State Forest, 2km west of the Ellenbrook town centre, after rain forced the cancellation of the burn on Tuesday. The Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions was able to light controlled fires across 91ha in Pinjar. It conducts the prescribed burns “for forest management and to manage bushfire risk and biodiversity”.
