Ban would be ridicu­lous

I HAVE been an en­vi­ron­men­tal sci­en­tist for many years, in­clud­ing with the UN, and I would be the first to ad­vo­cate us­ing some­thing other than chem­i­cals to re­move weeds if avail­able, prac­ti­cal and eco­nomic. And I am any­thing but an apol­o­gist for Mon­santo – heaven for­bid.

How­ever, let me put the record straight.

The US court sys­tem con­tin­ues to puz­zle me. The court case is now the sub­ject of an ap­peal by Mon­santo and I am not sur­prised, es­pe­cially as the US EPA clas­si­fies glyphosate as a group E chem­i­cal, which means there is “strong ev­i­dence that it does not cause cancer in hu­mans”.

That this raises le­gal ques­tions must be ac­knowl­edged,
