Hills schoolboy takes the Melbourne International Comedy Festival by storm!

15 year old Oakhill College student, Daniel Reeve, was named the winner of the national Class Clowns

Grand Final held at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival last week. Daniel, who plays comedy songs on his keyboard, beat 14 other young performers from around the country.

Class Clowns is a section of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival that nurtures up and coming talent from Years 9-12. After surviving a round of heats and State finals, a representative from each state and territory is picked to compete in the national final. A number of wildcards are also chosen to head to Melbourne. During the final, each performer gets just 5 minutes to do their best comedy routine.

Daniel, who plays comedy songs on a keyboard, says he really enjoyed the whole experience. He says he admires people “like Tim Minchin, Bo Burnham, the Aunty Donna guys ... the hardest part is practising songs for so long you’re not sure they’re funny anymore. But once you come out and play and people are laughing, its OK.’

Bryn Inglis from Victoria and Vincent Meyrick from South Australia were judged runners-up. The other 11 Class Clowns finalists were Alana Steward (VIC), Anzel Van-Niekerk (WA), Bhavika Sharma (TAS), Callum Fisher (QLD), Demetri Spyropoulos (VIC), Jaxon Mitchell and Jamie Roberts (NT), Kate Wilkins (NSW), Lana Pigeon (ACT), Mireille-Francoise Renzaho (NSW), Sirak Keeghan (VIC), and Soloman Lancini (QLD).

Producer, Wes Snelling, says Class Clowns gives “teenagers the opportunity to jump up on stage, some for the very first time, to perform their craft of making people laugh. And more importantly, Class

Clowns is a forum to meet likeminded funny people from across Australia.”

Class Clowns alumni include: Tom Ballard (triple j, Reality Check ABC1 and 2016 Barry Award nominee), Josh Thomas (Please Like Me ABC2) and Joel Creasey ( I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here). For more information about Class Clowns, visit: www.classclowns.com.au.
