Hawkesbury residents are encouraged to Love Where We Live by getting involved in Graffiti Removal Day on Sunday, 29 October 2017. Volunteers are encouraged to meet at the reserve off the end of Youl Place, Bligh Park at 9.30am.

Graffiti vandalism costs local businesses, households, NSW Government and Hawkesbury City Council millions of dollars each year. This is money which could be invested into roads, sporting facilities, schools and hospitals.

Mayor of Hawkesbury, Councillor Mary Lyons-Buckett said, “Graffiti is one of the most visible crimes in our community. This initiative increases the sense of safety and pride in the community, as well as increasing the value of property by keeping buildings and structures in the area clean.”

Graffiti Removal Day spokesperson, Garry Baldry said, “Graffiti Removal Day draws attention to the fight against graffiti vandalism and encourages people to get involved in the removal and prevention of graffiti.”

“Hawkesbury City Council and Rotary are committed to combating graffiti, which is why we are proud to be working with the NSW Government, Graffiti Removal Australia and great sponsors such as Dulux, Selleys and Smart Graffiti on this event.”

“By taking action in your street, your suburb, or your city we can all Love Where We Live by making sure our place is one to be proud of ” he added.

Last year across NSW over 1500 volunteers removed more than 20,500m2 of graffiti from 460 sites. This year may be even bigger and better.

Volunteers will be supplied with free cleaning material, paint, safety equipment and training on how to safely remove graffiti.

Residents can register or suggest a clean-up site by completing a form at www.graffitiremovalday.org.au

Those who cannot make it on the Day can still support this great event by promoting it on Facebook, Instagram Twitter and Snapchat using the hastags#GRD17 and #LoveWhereWeLive.
