A free fam­ily fun, food and fire­works event is com­ing to the Hawkes­bury for Aus­tralia Day 2018. ‘Aus­tralia Day on the Hawkes­bury’ will be held at Gov­er­nor Phillip Park, Wind­sor on

The day will start with a free BBQ from 8am, pro­vided by the Ro­tary Club of Rich­mond and the Ro­tary Club of Kur­ra­jong North Rich­mond. Hawkes­bury City Coun­cil’s an­nual Cit­i­zen­ship cer­e­mony will take place from 8:45am. Each year there are many com­mu­nity mem­bers seek­ing Cit­i­zen­ship in the Hawkes­bury. This cer­e­mony is for fam­ily and friends of the cit­i­zens to at­tend. For more in­for­ma­tion about this cer­e­mony, call Coun­cil on (02) 4560 4444.

The an­nual Aus­tralia Day Awards cer­e­mony will com­mence at 10:30am. There are many lo­cals in our com­mu­nity that have made won­der­ful achieve­ments and these awards are an op­por­tu­nity to recog­nise these in­di­vid­u­als and groups. Some of the award cat­e­gories in­clude; Young Cit­i­zen of the Year, Lo­cal Hero Award, Vol­un­teer of the Year, Com­mu­nity Or­gan­i­sa­tion of the Year. The RAAF will then have a fly­over at 12:15pm.

The af­ter­noon event starts at 4pm, the Trav­el­ing Food Fest will bring a fan­tas­tic va­ri­ety of food trucks – some of these in­clude Al­dos, Bells Chu­rios, El Taco Loco, Ge­late Bri­oche, Cros­dales BBQ, Hill­billy Cider, Casey’s Brew­ery and many more. The kids will be able to en­joy jump­ing cas­tles, a gi­ant wa­ter slide, face paint­ing and many other fun ac­tiv­i­ties whilst the par­ents can sit and en­joy the at­mos­phere. The evening will con­clude with a spec­tac­u­lar fire­works dis­play on the river. Strictly no BYO al­co­hol will be al­lowed and bags will be checked upon en­try.

Aus­tralia Day on the Hawkes­bury is spon­sored by Hawkes­bury City Coun­cil, Wind­sor RSL, Crowne Plaza Hawkes­bury, The Rich­mond Club, The Hawkes­bury Race Club, Hawkes­bury Cham­ber of Com­merce, The RAAF Base Rich­mond, The Hawkes­bury Gazette, and The Trav­el­ing Food Fest.

Mayor of Hawkes­bury, Coun­cil­lor Mary Lyons-Buck­ett said “Aus­tralia Day is a won­der­ful day for the Hawkes­bury’s lo­cal com­mu­nity to gather to­gether and cel­e­brate be­ing Aus­tralian whilst en­joy­ing one of the Hawkes­bury’s most pic­turesque parks. Coun­cil is very ex­cited to be able to of­fer a free event for the com­mu­nity”. “I am pleased to an­nounce that Hawkes­bury City Coun­cil is work­ing with lo­cal busi­ness’ to make this pos­si­ble,” she added.

One of the spon­sors, The Hawkes­bury Race Club, will also hold the Hawkes­bury Com­mu­nity Race Day on Wed­nes­day, 24 Jan­uary, the first of 2018. En­try is free for Hawkes­bury res­i­dents and De­fence Force per­son­nel.
