Classical Concerts a Church Coup
The Galston Concerts series returns for 2018 starting 2pm Sunday 25 February in the Galston Uniting Church. The concert will see the world-travelled New England Ensemble performing popular Classical music for piano and strings. The church is proving to be an ideal home for concerts in its School Road Galston bushland setting.
“The church grand piano and historic organ were the musical catalysts for starting the concerts” say artistic co-directors Robert Harris and Dorit Herskovits.
“Our growing audience enjoys the wonderful sound of the church, the quality of the performers, imaginative varied programs and friendly presentation style.” “The inspirational modern stained-glass windows complement those musical pleasures.”
“Our complimentary afternoon teas, comfy seating, easy access and off-street parking - all audience friendly – are achieved with strong organizational support from the church team assisting the concerts project.”
The Ensemble, long regarded as “amongst our top groups” (Sydney Morning Herald), will perform a treasury or great Classics, tuneful and spirited.
Music by great composers including Beethoven and Dvorak will be ‘spiced’ by other styles from England, Russia, Scandinavia, Spain and more, reflecting the Ensembles touring success to over thirty countries.
Later concerts in the series will offer similar international status – virtuoso globe-trotting pianist Bernard Walz with guest cabaret vocalist on 3 June; the Sydney Symphony Orchestra Fellows ensemble on 29 July; on 16 September pianist Tonya Lemoh, recently returned from concerts and recordings in Europe.
The series closes 18 November with the Galston Gala, to feature the church historic pipe organ, young performer prize-winners and the Arcadian Strings ensemble. While tickets will be available at the church on the afternoon of each concert advance bookings for 25 February and for the five concerts for the price of four series can be made through www. trybooking.com (search Galston).
A special non-series concert on 8 April, featuring the music of J S Bach, available free to series subscribers, affords added good reason for booking the series package.
Enquiries can be made to Helen Jordan, promotions coordinator for the concerts, on 0425 339 841, or Robert Harris on 0428 248 348.
