85 of Australia’s best handlers, 351 sheepdogs and 800 sheep will be congregating at the Hawkesbury Showground from the 8th to 14th October to compete for the title of DogPro Plus Supreme Australian Champion. Sheepdog trials test, display and publicise the tasks working dogs carry out on stations, farms and on the road while droving.

Each Handler and dog team will be working 3 sheep around a marked course, through gates, over a bridge and into a pen. The obstacles are designed to test the strengths and weaknesses of the dog and sheep often do not take kindly to being forced through them.

Each Team starts with 100 points. Points are lost each time the sheep leave a marked corridor around the course and for obstacles not completed. The only problem is that the sheep don’t know the course. Handler and must dog work together to show them the way and they only have 15 minutes to do it. Competitors are made up of men and women, young and old, farmers and city folk. There are even 15 competitors from the Hawkesbury area.

As well as the Championship, the Australian Team will be trying their hardest to beat the New Zealand team to win the coveted Wayleggo Cup and each state will be competing against each other to win the Ted Gaby Shield.

There will be live commentary every day at

10am and 2pm, food and drink. Spectators are welcome and Entry is FREE.
