Werribee Open Range Zoo, VIC
A visit to the zoo will never be complete without the gliding elegance and wild beauty of the big cat. That’s why a new litter of baby lion cubs always brings joy; just ask the vets at Werribee Open Range Zoo, who welcomed four beautiful furry babies in December 2016. First-time mum Nairibi has shown amazing motherly instincts, caring and nursing the cubs during their first weeks. Just like in the wild, the mother separates herself from the pride and chooses a safe, quiet place to deliver and look after her babies until they are fully mobile and aware. The number of African lions in the wild was recently estimated at only 20,000, however, these furry balls will soon be strong enough to claim their rightful place as kings of the savannah. Not to be outdone, Werribee also welcomed seven eland calves in December.
