When Travis was diagnosed with bone cancer at the age of nine, Ronald Mcdonald House helped him and his family through over nine months of treatments. Growing up on a farm, Travis lived a long way from treatment centres. Paying for long-term accommodation would have meant his family would have to sell part of the farm. Ronald Mcdonald House became a sanctuary for Travis’ family. Travis made friends with another boy with bone cancer and the staff supported the family with kindness and patience, as well as Christmas and birthday celebrations.
