Who lives here?

Clifton, founder of design and construction company Union 3; Emily, an interior designer; and children, Henry, seven, and Charlotte, six. Where are you all on a typical weekend? Emily: “We spend a lot of time outside. We have recently put a timber-slatted cover over our deck and we sit out there a lot. We have a fire pit and spend the evenings out there with the kids.” What is your best bargain buy?

“I saw some wicker occasional chairs I loved but they were pretty expensive – then I went to do an interiors job at someone’s house and the woman had those chairs but didn’t like them, so she gave them to me!”

And what was your biggest splurge?

“The ‘Martinique’ wallpaper next to the breeze block wall. It’s been a favourite design of mine since I was little and for me it was like buying a prized artwork and hanging it up.”
