Make Scotty’s trin­ket box.

BE­GIN WITH MEA­SUR­ING TAPE; PEN­CIL; PIECE OF TIM­BER (I USED MAPLE); CIR­CU­LAR DROPSAW; SAND­PA­PER & BLOCK; CORD­LESS DRILL & BIT; SMALL SCREWS; TIM­BER STAIN; CLEAN RAG; SMALLGAUGE ROPE; PAINT; SMALL PAINT ROLLER

STEP ONE Work out the size of your box – mine is 30cm wide and 20cm high – then mea­sure and mark tim­ber.

STEP TWO Cut four pieces of tim­ber us­ing the dropsaw: top, bot­tom and two sides.

STEP THREE Give ev­ery sawn sur­face a thor­ough sand­ing.

STEP FOUR Po­si­tion side pieces of tim­ber on base of box. Mark where they join and where screws will go.

STEP FIVE Put tim­ber pieces on bench and drill holes for screws us­ing cord­less drill.

STEP SIX Re­assem­ble box and screw it to­gether us­ing cord­less drill and screws.

STEP SEVEN On box sides, mark where holes for rope hanger will be. Drill holes us­ing cord­less drill.

STEP EIGHT Fin­ish off all sur­faces ex­cept front face of box by rub­bing in tim­ber stain with clean rag. Let dry.

STEP NINE Cut rope to de­sired length. Tie a knot in one end. From in­side box, thread rope through one hole, then through other hole from out­side box. Tie knot to secure; trim rope.

STEP TEN Paint front face us­ing small roller. Let dry.
