Scotty Cam shows you how to make a timber box for your fave knick-knacks.
Make Scotty’s trinket box.
BEGIN WITH MEASURING TAPE; PENCIL; PIECE OF TIMBER (I USED MAPLE); CIRCULAR DROPSAW; SANDPAPER & BLOCK; CORDLESS DRILL & BIT; SMALL SCREWS; TIMBER STAIN; CLEAN RAG; SMALLGAUGE ROPE; PAINT; SMALL PAINT ROLLER
STEP ONE Work out the size of your box – mine is 30cm wide and 20cm high – then measure and mark timber.
STEP TWO Cut four pieces of timber using the dropsaw: top, bottom and two sides.
STEP THREE Give every sawn surface a thorough sanding.
STEP FOUR Position side pieces of timber on base of box. Mark where they join and where screws will go.
STEP FIVE Put timber pieces on bench and drill holes for screws using cordless drill.
STEP SIX Reassemble box and screw it together using cordless drill and screws.
STEP SEVEN On box sides, mark where holes for rope hanger will be. Drill holes using cordless drill.
STEP EIGHT Finish off all surfaces except front face of box by rubbing in timber stain with clean rag. Let dry.
STEP NINE Cut rope to desired length. Tie a knot in one end. From inside box, thread rope through one hole, then through other hole from outside box. Tie knot to secure; trim rope.
STEP TEN Paint front face using small roller. Let dry.
