Suspended plants add wow overhead to outdoor spaces.

Suspend your potted plants for instant overhead wow.

IN SMALL AREAS like balconies and porches, hanging plants can create an instant garden. Fill with succulents, easy-care tropical plants, herbs for the kitchen or pretty annuals for colour. The biggest challenge you’ll face for their survival is keeping them moist!

Plants in plastic pots won’t dry out too quickly as the plastic reduces moisture loss. Look for styles with self-watering saucers. Plant in a mix of soil (see box, right) and mulch with pebbles or coconut fibre.

WIRE BASKETS Some come with ready-made liners; if not, make one of coconut fibre, moss or even bark. Then cut a piece of plastic to shape and poke holes in it to form a liner. Plant and mulch as above, and soak in a bucket of water at least once a month.
