MUTED TONES MAY WORK WELL for winter, but it’s also nice to have a pop of colour sometimes! I’ve highlighted some here – you can add these shades to almost any room. Even in small doses they will add plenty of character, making them perfect for the cost conscious, as investing in one or two new items can help transform your space from summer chic to warm and cosy for winter.

INDIGO has been around for the past few seasons, and will be here for a few more. This elegant, rich and deep blue suits every season. Pick up on this hue in your accessories, soft furnishings or artwork. It’s a colour that I would happily have in every room.

OLIVE GREEN may not be a common colour choice, but it does work well year round and will suit most winterthemed palettes. Featuring it against charcoal greys in your sofa or bedding will let this colour really pop, and it will also hold its own with any timber tones and gold highlights. The moment you place this colour in a room with gold, copper or brass, your eye will instanly pick up on any metallic highlights, be it a mirror frame, lamp-base or votives.

RICH PINK is friends with deep indigo and most natural tones – it’s the perfect accent colour to brighten up a living room or bedroom. A bonus is that it’s a deep tone, which means it’s not too feminine. Try adding it as a feature in a bold print or artwork.

BUTTERCUP YELLOW Muted yet bright, this yellow especially stands out against wintery greys. It’s one of those colours which instantly makes you feel happy so it’s a great uplifting shade for winter.

Even adding even small amounts of these accents colours to your spaces will create an inviting atmosphere, that’s perfectly on-trend too.
