Rhubarb is a pop­u­lar fruit for un­der a crum­ble, ei­ther alone (add a lit­tle or­ange juice and sugar to taste when cook­ing) or com­bined with ap­ples or pears. Try adding blue­ber­ries, black­ber­ries or mixed berries to your ap­ple base or, for chewy de­li­cious­ness, fresh figs. Pear and gin­ger are an­other tasty combo and, when in sea­son, ex­per­i­ment with stone­fruit and vanilla.
