Doc­tors rec­om­mend a pap smear ev­ery two years af­ter you turn 18 un­til you’re 69. There’s also a cervical can­cer vac­cine that pro­tects against the two high­risk hu­man pa­pil­lo­mavirus (HPV) types, which cause 70 per cent of cervical can­cers in women. It’s free to women aged 12 to 26.
